The students in the Department of landscape and ornamental plants are responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of park and garden landscaping and the cultivation, protection and marketing of ornamental plants to grow in these areas under the supervision of the landscape architect. Graduating students are awarded the title of landscape technician. "Landscape and ornamental plants" are given in associate degree programs of vocational schools affiliated to universities.
DUTIES OF LANDSCAPE TECHNICIANS ;
* Draws projects designed by Landscape Architect with Discovery,
* Provides pricing and quantity extraction services for the creation of Yesil green areas and sports facilities, and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of these areas.,
* Supervises the implementation of reinforcement elements such as landscape-oriented construction activities and ornamental pools,
* Prepares the progress files of the landscape studies made to public institutions and organizations,
* Makes or makes all kinds of trees, trees, shrubs, annual and perennial plants used as the main material in landscape applications, production, daily maintenance, pest control and harvest operations and sales operations,
* Directs workers, follows practices and keeps score during field work,
Landscape application and ornamental plants technician works in different places and conditions according to the stages of his work. These are briefly;
Office environment: bright,clean and quiet environments equipped with the necessary tools for drawing and projecting stages. Work is usually performed sitting in this space.
Field studies: the place where construction and plant applications are performed is outside spaces. Determination of how the land should be used best, ground work for plant planting, plant loading, concrete pouring, stone laying etc. jobs require working outdoors.It is usually practiced standing up. April May June September October November and spring months are often done in this profession because very hot and very cold weather conditions are not suitable for plant and construction.the field works are often carried out in spring (April-May-June) and autumn (September-October-November). The working environment can be dusty, muddy, wet and noisy.
Production areas such as greenhouses and nurseries: greenhouses ornamental plants and plant species used as cut flowers, nurseries are usually perennial trees and trees are produced and maintained. These areas are relatively more sheltered and clean according to land conditions. It can be worked both sitting and standing.
In this profession, it is possible to provide periodic maintenance services of plants in the interior of places such as banks, business centers and Yesil spaces in sports facilities.
Professional staff work in communication with landscape architect, agricultural/civil engineer, architect and landowners.
Graduates of the program, indoor, outdoor ornamental plants, cut flower cultivation, grass field, tree and shrub plants seedling production, greenhouses operating in the fields of the private companies engaged in landscape applications, municipalities park and garden plants departments, businesses in tourist areas can have work space. In addition, graduates can establish and operate their own private farming areas.
The students who successfully complete the landscape and ornamental plants associate degree program, if they are successful in the" vertical transfer to Undergraduate Education Exam(DGS)", can transfer to the programs specified in the OSYs manual within the quota.
